“Never will I take for granted the simple act of putting on shoes, knowing first-hand the amount of effort that goes into making them”, was the mindset we gained after attending one of The Shoe Camaraderie’s recent sandal-making workshops in Melbourne.

The Elodie – Style Available at The Shoe Camaraderie workshops

The Shoe Camaraderie offers beginner-to-intermediate (depending on the design you choose) one-day women’s sandal making workshops in most Australian capital cities throughout the year.

Attendees are greeted with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and guided by Founder & Creator, Lisa Turnbull, on a journey through the 6-8 hour process of making their own custom-fitted leather sandals.

The designs available are classically beautiful (as their insta-feed attests to).

The Shoe Camaraderie Inspiration on Instagram

Drawing on many years of workshop teaching experience from home-town Brisbane, owner and trainer, Lisa lends confident and well thought out instruction to complete newbies and aspiring-designers alike.

A comfortable, friendly and relaxed venue, personally selected by our trainer, Lisa Turnbull

We were eager to try out the popular new style “Cosette”, and while a few times we became out of our depth and even overwhelmed with the intricate attention needed, Lisa was there to guide and provide professional corrections on the go. Overall we think the results are fantastic  and there’s no substitute for the feeling of satisfaction at the end, as well as having earned a far more interesting fashion back-story than ‘I got them on sale’.

Our Completed Sandals – The Cosette

Our review of The Shoe Camaraderie – Sandal Making Workshop was definitely the eye-opening experience we had hoped for. The intensity of effort that goes into making a single pair of shoes is no small feat, and after investing 8+ hours into the one pair, it is impossible to over-estimate the impact that paying a fair-price for our shoes has on a maker’s life.

Thanks to Lisa for this personal experience, and providing the opportunity for Australians to learn first-hand, the important message of slow, fair fashion.

Places are limited to small groups and often sell out quickly so be sure to book early!
