From 23-29 of November, the spotlight is back on Melbourne for an updated and apt, 2020-take on the usual schedule of ready-to-wear fashion shows.

Respectfully muted and understandably delayed, the M/FW festivities are the only major local fashion event to proceed since Australian Fashion Week made the difficult, but unavoidable decision to cancel their 2020 event during the global pandemic, earlier in the year.

This year’s fashion week in Melbourne will be a 100% free and digital-centric program where viewers can create their own FROW experience from the comfort of, well anywhere, streaming over 20 shows on demand, straight from the M/FW website (registrations needed).

The past few years, Melbourne Fashion Week has increasingly offered one of the most conscious and aware programs in the fashion ‘scape when it comes to sustainability and current issues facing the industry.

M/FW ‘20 will continue in theme with the organisers putting seasonless fashion on the agenda, support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designs, approaches to fashion waste, and presenting frank industry discussions post-pandemic in their Conversations series.

The shows we’re in our living rooms ready to stream-on-demand from Nov 23 (obligatory glass of sparkling in hand) include Jade Sarita’s transparent and eco-conscious label Arnsdorf, Kit Willow’s future-focused designs featuring upcycled materials at Kit-X, Denni Francisco’s mindfully created designs supporting indigenous artists by Ngali, and ethically innovative Elk will launch their NOMAD collection, by Marnie Goding and Adam Koniaras.

These and many more digital shows are coming Nov 23rd, view the full list of digital shows at M/FW here.

Live on show (if you were lucky enough to snag a limited in-person ticket) socially-distanced audiences will view designers like the award-winning MAARA Collective on the Arid Garden runway, presented within the trés fitting surrounds of Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens.

If in attendance at Meyers Place runway, don’t miss the best local talent of ethical labels REBORN by HoMie, Remuse and SZN.

Our thoughts? Make an afternoon/evening of the unique opportunity to stream exclusive shows of fantastic local designers by hosting a watch-gathering (observing the current allowances).

Follow it up with an ideas-session and discuss ways you can make a positive impact towards fashion in your sphere of influence, individually and together. As a community, we are all participating in the future of fashion, let’s make it something spectacular.
